The variety show performance to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Hon Wah College was successfully held on March 9 at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall. The Hall was packed to capacity with nearly 1,400 guests, alumni, teachers, students and parents, creating a lively atmosphere filled with continuous applause.
The evening’s programme was rich and diverse, opening with the short film *Generations at Hon Wah*, recalling the school’s glorious eighty-year journey. The Symphonic Band delivered a stirring opening with *Echoes of Legend: A Musical Celebration*, whilst a special guest performance by the Hong Kong Garrison Choir, singing *Hong Kong, I Stand Guard for You*, conveyed their heartfelt commitment to safeguarding Hong Kong. The dance performances *Torch of Succession: Light-Years* and *Flooding of Golden Hill* showcased the elegance of dancers from different eras. The Chinese Orchestra, joined by alumni, performed *Ode to Hon Wah*, *Dragon Dance* and Cantonese opera, their melodious tunes evoking collective memories. The School’s English Drama Alliance, Latin Dance Team, Jazz Dance Team and Chinese Dance Team (Primary Section) also took to the stage, with the finale by Wah Ying Choir performing *Staying True to Your Mind* and *Good Days*. The entire audience joined in singing the school song, bringing the atmosphere to a climax.
The variety show was not merely an artistic exchange, but also a platform for alumni and students to support one another and pass on the school’s heritage. On stage, alumni performed alongside their younger counterparts, whilst the audience cheered them on enthusiastically, with applause and cheers ringing out continuously, fully embodying the spirit of unity and mutual support among the Hon Wah community. Many alumni expressed deep satisfaction at witnessing the dedication and talent of the new generation; the students, in turn, learned perseverance and passion from their seniors.
The success of the performance is owed to the dedication of everyone, both on stage and behind the scenes. We would like to thank the performing groups, teachers, alumni volunteers and staff for their collective efforts, as well as our distinguished guests and the audience for their enthusiastic participation. Eighty years is just a starting point; the spirit of Hon Wah will continue to be passed down from generation to generation, as we stride towards an even brighter future!
